Averrhoa carambola (Melocotón)

Evergreen shrub with fruits in shape of a star, if cut in slices. They are often used for drinks, jams or pickles. If consumed in a high amount it can be toxic.

    • Geographic origin: Tropical South East Asia

    • Current geographic distribution: Tropical areas worldwide

    • Pollination: Mainly bees

    • Uses: Edible fruits, leaves and flowers, medicinal plant (traditional use against fever, high blood pressure, diabetes, rheumatism or asthma among others (can be toxic for people with renal problems!)

ABOUT "WE LOVE CACAO"

We are building a food forest based on cacao in Nicaragua to create a species-rich ecosystem that will contribute to the reforestation of cleared land, provide habitat for local wildlife and provide food and work for the people in the region.
